Our Golf Staff
Aaron C. Berry, Golf Shop Coordinator
Aaron oversees the daily golf operations at Rockwind Community Links. He is responsible for scheduling golf events and tournaments in addition to maintaining the facility standards with the driving range and the fleet of golf carts. Aaron also manages the pro shop inventory as well as supervising his staff.
A native of Hobbs, Aaron graduated from Hobbs High School in 2002. He attended the University of the Southwest in Hobbs where he earned a B.S. in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. He was an active member of the school’s golf team. Aaron then went on to earn his MBA at the University of the Southwest.
Aaron’s goal at Rockwind is to provide the best customer service to every individual who visits the course.
Ben Kirkes, Golf Shop Clerk
Ben joined the Rockwind golf staff in 2017 and has quickly become an ambassador for the facility. He assists with The First Tee program and also leads the club’s PGA Junior League program during the summer months. He conducts private coaching programs for adult and junior students and also teaches several students on a weekly basis. Ben is a crucial part of the daily pro shop operations including merchandising, checking-in customers and educating golfers on Rockwind’s layout.
Ben is on staff with Callaway and excels at fitting customers. His Callaway club sales have been so successful that Rockwind has expanded its pro shop for all fitting and demo components.
A resident of Hobbs, Ben played varsity high school golf at Highland High School in Phoenix, Arizona for two years and then finished his high school at Carlsbad High School, Carlsbad, New Mexico making 1st team all-state both his junior and senior years. Following graduation in 2011, Ben earned a full scholarship to play for the New Mexico Junior College golf team in Hobbs. NMJC was the #1 Junior College golf team in America at the time. Ben played in two NJCAA Nation Golf Championships at NMJC and earned a scholarship to West Texas A&M where he majored in Business Management.
MATT L. HUGHES (Course SuperintendEnt)
Raised in the Texas Hill Country, Matt always enjoying the outdoors including hunting, fishing and competition trap and skeet shooting. Matt’s turfgrass experience started at a very young age with his summer job mowing neighborhood lawns. His passion for the outdoors and enjoying God's land ultimately led to his pursuing a career as a Golf Course Superintendent. Currently, he is a Class “A” GCSAA member and has had the opportunity to work at many golf courses in the West including the award winning Johnny Miller Golf Course in Utah, Thanksgiving Point, as well as courses in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.
Through Matt’s journey as a superintendent he has been happily joined by his wife of 18 years and, most recently, alongside his blessed 5 year old twins. He is a child of God, husband, father of twins and a golf course superintendent. For Matt, being a superintendent is not simply a career, but a lifestyle where his wife, twins, and, of course, his dog Daisy are an integral part of his daily experience.
Matt and his wife travelled to Hobbs from Arizona 10 years ago to take on the Superintendent position and are very proud members of the Hobbs Community. They are looking forward to many more years taking care of the course where he was an integral part of the decision to completely redesign the course and, that he grew in from the first blade of grass.
