Linda Howell (General Manager/Head Golf Professional)
Linda comes to us via Santa Fe, New Mexico where she was the Director of Golf at Towa Golf Club at Buffalo Thunder Resort for over 4 years. Prior to Towa, she was Head Professional at the new Jack Nicklaus Design course, Cougar Canyon, in Trinidad, CO. Cougar Canyon earned multiple awards including top 3 new golf courses by Golf Digest in 2007.
Linda is a PGA Class “A” Member and has had great success in instruction of men, women and juniors ranging from beginners to expert players. She has been instrumental in increasing women’s and Junior participation through her great enthusiasm, women’s specialty clinics, in addition to a coach for The First Tee Golf & Life Skills program. She was awarded the PGA Sun Country Youth Golf Development Award in 2016.
Before Linda’s career path in golf, Linda played professional tennis where she earned a World ranking in the top #100 while competing in tournaments such as Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and Australian Open. As a teaching professional, she worked for ten years at the Riviera Country Club where she held the position of Head Professional for last two years.
Linda is a proud resident of the City of Hobbs and has enjoyed setting roots in the area and diligently working on creating the new face of Rockwind Community Links with focus on exceptional customer service and growing the game of golf in the community.
MATT L. HUGHES (Course SuperintendEnt)
Raised in the Texas Hill Country, Matt always enjoying the outdoors including hunting, fishing and competition trap and skeet shooting. Matt’s turfgrass experience started at a very young age with his summer job mowing neighborhood lawns. His passion for the outdoors and enjoying God's land ultimately led to his pursuing a career as a Golf Course Superintendent. Currently, he is a Class “A” GCSAA member and has had the opportunity to work at many golf courses in the West including the award winning Johnny Miller Golf Course in Utah, Thanksgiving Point, as well as courses in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.
Through Matt’s journey as a superintendent he has been happily joined by his wife of 18 years and, most recently, alongside his blessed 5 year old twins. He is a child of God, husband, father of twins and a golf course superintendent. For Matt, being a superintendent is not simply a career, but a lifestyle where his wife, twins, and, of course, his dog Daisy are an integral part of his daily experience.
Matt and his wife travelled to Hobbs from Arizona 10 years ago to take on the Superintendent position and are very proud members of the Hobbs Community. They are looking forward to many more years taking care of the course where he was an integral part of the decision to completely redesign the course and, that he grew in from the first blade of grass.
tripp gleghorn (assistant golf professional)
Born in Hatch, NM where he started playng golf at a very young age and fell in love with the sport. Tripp found great success early in his career as evidenced by numerous titles playing in the Sun Country Junior Tour. In 2012, his father, Charles Gleghorn, was offered the Varsity Football Head Coach position in Hobbs, NM. Tripp continued to pursue his passion and played on the Hobbs High School Golf team where he was a key member of the 2012 Division 5A State Championship team as well as winning the district individual title in 2014.
Following great success ion the junior ranks and in high school golf, Tripp was offered a full scholarship to New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, NM. Although he enjoyed the competition, he found that he had a different calling in the golf industry. He was one of the original staff members and, a major contributor to what is now the internationally award winning Rockwind Community Links. His involvement with Rockwind led to his decision to pursue a career as a club professional where he would continue to play at a high level, as well as work with the community to grow the game of golf. He found passion in teaching the game of golf to players of all ages and levels, and in particular, with the youth. His skills also have carried over into the business side of golf where he has shown an amazing talent in merchandising and sales.
After easily passing the PGA playing test, Tripp is now in the PGA apprentice program and will be working diligently to acquire Class A status in the very near future. The community of Hobbs is fortunate to have Tripp stay true to his roots and pursue a career at home where his talents can be appreciated and shared with the local community.
